The family of an assassinated N. Korea defector demands a state investigation

Seoul, November 23, : , The relatives of prominent North Korean defectors have asked Seoul’s state reconciliation panel to investigate the circumstances surrounding their death, according to a civic organization official.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee Han-young was the nephew of Kim Jong-il, the North Korean leader.

He shot Song Hye-rim in front his Seoul apartment.This happened 15 years after he had defected from the South.

Lee was killed 10 days later.

Do Hee-youn is the head of Citizens’ Coalition of Human Rights Abductees and North Korean Refugees.

He said that he filed a request for an investigation to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Monday for Lee’s family.

According to Do., his family is seeking to recover their honor and the honour of the victim as well as an apology from the North, compensation by the state and preventive measures that would allow such a case to recur.

Lee’s spouse had filed an earlier suit against the government, seeking compensation for his failure to be protected.In 2008, the Supreme Court ruled for Lee’s family.

The family appealed against the decision, arguing that the country didn’t take adequate measures to restore honour for the victim’s family and other family members.
