It is asking legislators for stricter regulation on targeted advertising from big social media and internet companies.
The EDPB stated in a statement that targeted online advertising needs to be regulated in the Digital Services Act.This would allow for less intrusive advertising forms that don’t require tracking users’ personal data.

The lawmakers were urged to contemplate a phase out that would prohibit targeted advertising based on pervasive track, while “profiling children” should be banned.

These new proposals are intended to allow the sharing and further usage of personal data among more private and public parties within ‘the data economic’.They also support specific technologies like Big Data or AI, and regulate and control online platforms and gatekeepers.

The board said that the combined effects of adoption and implementation will have a significant impact on the protection and protection of privacy rights and personal data.

According to the EU’s Data Protection Advisor, these proposals, if not amended, will adversely impact fundamental freedoms and rights of people and create significant uncertainty in the legal system that could undermine the current and future legal frameworks.

Regulation on a European Approach for Artificial Intelligence (AIR), currently permits the use in some cases of remote biometric identification systems for law enforcement purposes in public spaces.

According to EDPB the AIR should ban any AI used for automated recognition of human features within public spaces – including faces, but also gait, fingerprints DNA and voice – in any context.
