Sydney 18 August, Sydney : When the Game of Thrones prequel series “House of the Dragon’ was released in Sydney, Patrick Delany the chief executive of Australian Television company Foxtel spoke of the actress Emilia Clarke as a “short and dumpy girl.”
Foxtel is an Australian pay-TV company is the country’s home for Game of Thrones’ according to Variety.

According to Australian newspaper Crikey, Delany was giving an address ahead of the “House of the Dragon’s premiere and attempted to make fun of the first time he saw Game of Thrones’.

The CEO stated: “I was like, What’s this show with the short, slender girl who walks into the fire What’s this show about?”

Delany was referring to Emilia’s Daenerys Targaryen character who is famously seen walking through flames during the series.

A fan at the Sydney premiere said to Crikey that “there was some sort of gasp” when Delany said the line.

A Foxtel spokesperson spoke to Crikey at the time of the event that Delany’s comment was “meant to be self-deprecating.”

The company released the following statement: “The aim was to communicate that for him “Games of Thrones’ was quite different from the television in 2011.Emilia Clarke went from relatively unknown to being one of the most well-known and well-loved actors in the world of film and television.

“On behalf of Mr.Delany, the Foxtel Group apologizes if his comments were misinterpreted or caused harm,” the statement concluded.

Since the ‘House of the Dragon’ is place hundreds of years prior to the events of Game of Thrones”, Clarke isn’t involved in any way with the upcoming HBO prequel show.

Foxtel revealed in 2019 that the controversial “Game of Thrones finale of the series resulted in the largest influx of night-time subscribers in the history of the company.
