Kolkata 16 August : Two teams of Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income Tax (I-T) are conducting simultaneous raids and search operations at the home and office of Kaustav Roy an entrepreneur from Kolkata.He is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a popular Bengali news channel.
He is well-known for his close ties with the chief minister Mamata Banerjee.A ED source confirmed the raid but did not provide the reason behind this incident.
Contact attempts to reach Roy for his views were unsuccessful because his phone kept being ringing.
Roy was in the middle of controversy in May of this year when the state government set up an advisory committee for the monitoring and planning of welfare and development programs and named Roy with an uncertain background as the chair of the committee.
However, later , his name was stricken after Governor Jagdeep Dhankar questioned the legitimacy of Roy’s selection in the chair of importance.
Roy is active in many areas, including media, software, computers and software.
In March of 2018, he, as the director of RP Infosystems, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with a fraud of Rs 515 crore in a bank scam that involved a group of banks which included Punjab National Bank and Canara Bank.
In September of last year the channel, which is owned by Roy, Bengali channel run by Roy was issued a warning of the cancellation of license from the Union Ministry of Information & Broadcasting citing the Ministry of Home Affairs’ refusal of “security clearance”.
