New Delhi, Aug 10 : The Election Commission will host a virtual Asian Regional Forum meet on “Making our Elections Inclusive, Accessible and Participatory’.
The meeting will take place on the 11th of August, the event will serve as a prelude to the “Global Summit for Democracy” which will be hosted by the National Electoral Institute of Mexico in the coming months.

The Global Summit and Regional Forum meetings aim to create synergies between international organizations and electoral bodies from around all over the world, and to encourage the mobilization of institutions and intellectuals to increase the effectiveness of electoral democracy in around the globe.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, and Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey will host the event.

It will be attended by the election administration bodies of Mexico, Mauritius, Philippines, Nepal, Uzbekistan, Maldives and Representatives from International IDEA, Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) and International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES).

According to the Commission the Commission, the Commission has stated that this Asian Regional Forum (ARF) session will consist of two sessions.

The first session is titled “Inclusive elections that increase participation of Women, Youth and Citizens in remote Areas The session will be chaired by the Chief Commissioner for Elections of Mauritius as well as Nepal.The session will be represented by from COMELEC Philippines, as well as members from International IDEA and A-WEB.

The second session Accessible Elections to Increase Participation of People with Disabilities and Senior Citizens The session will be led by the Commissioner of COMELEC, Philippines and CEC of Uzbekistan and will include representatives from the Election Commission of Nepal & Maldives and IFES (Asia Pacific).

In an announcement that was released by the EC on Wednesday stated: “As part of this “Global Summit for Democracy” five Regional Forums including Africa, America, Asia, Europe, and countries of the Arab States have been created.India hosts the Asian Regional Forum meet of the EMBs not just to formalize and raise the profile of EMBs as a prelude to the “Global Summit for Democracy” but also to consider the changing geopolitics, the emergence of technologies and their application in the management of elections in the context of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 epidemic.”

The outcomes of the Regional Forum Meetings are designed to create an agenda and action plan to boost democracy around the globe, and particularly through strong election processes.So so far three Regional Forum meets for Europe, America and Africa have been held in the months of June and July in 2022, according to the report.
