Dubai 18 Aug : Dubai Capitals, the sister franchise of Delhi Capitals, the 2020 IPL runners-up Delhi Capitals, on Thursday announced Rovman Powell, Dasun Shanaka, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Dushmantha Chameera, Fabian Allen, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Sikandar Raza as their new signings for the International League T20 (ILT20) in the UAE via their accounts on social media. Powell played for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022 earlier in the year.In 14 games with the team, he made 250 runs as a lower order batter with an average of 25 and a strike rate of 149.70 in his very first appearance in the IPL.With the exception of Shanaka and Raza most of the players signed by Dubai Capitals have had current or prior IPL experience.
The Dubai franchise in the ILT20 will be managed by GMR Group, which are co-owners of Delhi Capitals in the IPL.The teams in the ILT20 will comprise of 18 players comprising four local UAE players as well as two players from ICC Associate countries.
The MI Emirates, Knight Riders owned by the group Abu Dhabi Knight Riders and the Adani Sportsline-owned Gulf Giants have already announced their squads for the ILT20.
The debut ILT20 edition of ILT20 will take place in 34-match format in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah beginning in January 2023.In addition to GMR Group owning the Dubai Emirates, Reliance Industries Limited (franchise name as the MI Emirates), Lancer Capital, Adani Sportsline (franchise name is Gulf Giants), Knight Riders Group (franchise name is Abu Dhabi Knight Riders) and Capri Global are the other team owners in the league.
ILT20 is in an in-direct match with So’th Africa’s T20 League, also scheduled to begin next year.Both leagues will be in operation during the time that Australia’s Big Bash League (BBL) and Bangladesh’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) will be in operation.
