Beijing 16 August : The severe drought that began on July 15 has afflicted over 1.38 million residents in China’s Jiangxi province, local officials announced on Tuesday.Drought conditions brought on by persistent high temperatures and low precipitation have impacted more than 83 counties in 11 cities of Jiangxi, Xinhua news agency reported, citing the provincial headquarters for drought and flood control as saying.
It also stated that the total of 11,000 people were having difficulty accessing drinking water, and around 141,100 hectares of crops were damaged due to the water shortage.
The meteorological observatory of the province issued an alert in red for extreme temperature at 7.35 a.m.Tuesday and forecasting that temperatures are likely to reach 37 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours.
China’s State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters and the Ministry of Emergency Management have created special plans for drought control and flood control to reduce injuries.
China has allocated 200 million dollars of money for disaster relief to aid the work of drought relief.
