Dhankhar seeks House proceedings from Bengal Speaker

Kolkata, November 19, : , Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar sent a letter Friday to the Speaker of West Bengal’s Legislative Assembly, claiming that he was not being given access to proceedings.
In particular, the Governor has requested the Assembly to pass a resolution against the extension of jurisdiction of Border Security Force.

The privilege motion was also moved against two top officers from the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED), respectively.

Referring to the House’s resolution against the Central government’s decision to expand the territory of the BSF to 15km to 50km from international borders, the Governor said that the House had passed the resolution.

After a vote in favor, the resolution was adopted.

Dhankhar also mentioned the privilege motion against the Deputy SP for CBI, and the Assistant Director to the Enforcement Directorate.

They were accused of allegedly making the speaker feel inferior by refusing to appear before him in spite of numerous summonses.

According to the privilege motion, three members of the ruling party — Firhad Hakim and Madan Mitra — were detained by the CBI in relation to the Narada case earlier this year.Speaker Biman Banerjee was not notified.

A privilege motion was filed against Satyendra Sing, Deputy SP, CBI and Rathin Biswas Assistant Director, ED.

The Governor sent a note to the Speaker stating that the proceedings of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly’s last session were secured.He made particular mention of Partha Chatterjee’s resolution under Rule 169, Procedures for Conduct of Business.

This Resolution was passed by the Assembly in regard to the extension of the jurisdiction of the BSF and the Breach Of Privilege And Contempt Motion by Tapas Raj on 17 November.

“Attention to the Hon’ble speaker, be reminded also that proceedings have been sought on previous occasions but these aren’t being made public.This is unacceptable, unconstitutional and inexcusable.It is necessary to inform the office that proceedings requested earlier can also be made available to them at this time, and not later than one week.

Later, the Governor’s Office tweeted the following: “WB Govt Shri Jagdeep Dahankhar requested West Bengal Legislative Assembly Proceedings in regards to passing @MamataOfficial regarding extension of jurisdiction area@BSF_India & Breach of Privilege motion against CBI officials and @dir_ED,” the Governor’s official Twitter account shared a screenshot from the governor’s November 18 letter.
