It is seen as a way for Depp to get back on track after having had Hollywood stay clear of him and leaving him with just European projects, including French filmmaker Maiwenn’s forthcoming film “Jeanne du Barry,” a historical romance that follows a concubine from a royal in which he is the controversial King Louis XV, notes ‘Variety’.

“Jeanne du Barry’ will be Depp’s first big acting role following the independent film “Minamata” in which he was the War photographer W.Eugene Smith.

In the same year, Depp was forced by Warner Bros.

to exit the spinoff of the Harry Potter series ‘Fantastic beasts’ after he dropped his libel suit against the British tabloid The Sun that had described Depp as a “wife beater”.Madds Mikkelson took over Depp as the dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald in “Fantastic Beast: The Secrets of Dumbledore’.

“Modigliani,” which is inspired by American playwright Dennis “National Anthems McIntyre’s play of the same title takes place in 1916 Paris.McIntyre was a playwright who died at the age of 47 in 1990.

was well-known in his time for highlighting the failings of American society in his plays. The original play was modified to film by Jerzy and Mary Kromolowski.

The film’s publicity release states Modigliani, “long considered by himself to be a commercial and critical failure, experiences an ebb and flow of hours that will be an important pivotal moment in his personal life and eventually establishing his status as an artist legend.”

In a different statement, which was also reported by ‘Variety’ Depp stated: “The saga of Mr Modigliani’s story is one that I’m extremely honoured and humbled to be able to tell on screen. It was a story of extreme struggles, but ultimately victory and a universally relatable story that everyone can be able to identify with.”
