Children’s population is declining, pushing up the median age in Philippines

Manila 14, August 14 : The proportion of young Filipinos has been decreasing in the past 20 years, while the number of the older generation has increased which has led to a rise of median age of 25.3 years old the government commission stated on Sunday.
The Philippine “population pyramid” is currently shrinking at the bottom of the pyramid that is made up of Filipino children ranging from ages zero to four, whereas it is expanding at the top according to the Commission of Population and Development (POPCOM) stated.

Citing information taken from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) The commission noted that the percentage of children under five years old of Filipino children who are less than five is dropping to 10.2 percent in 2020, down from 10.8 percent in 2015 and 12.6 percent in 2000.

In the category of Filipinos under the age of 15 The percentage has decreased from a 37 percent part in 2000, to 30.7 percent in 2020, Xinhua news agency reported.

The mean age of Filipinos increased to 25.3 years old, up from 23.3 years in 2010 which is in line with a 30-year pattern of an increase.

“The patterns of the Philippine population continues to show less levels of fertility,” POPCOM Executive Director Juan Perez said.

The PSA data also revealed that women of reproductive age, between 15 and age 49, have reached an all-time high in 2020 (which reached 27.8 million)
