On Monday, violent clashes broke out between rival security units in residential neighborhoods in the southern part of Yemen’s province of Shabwa, Xinhua news agency reported.

Security units loyal to the Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated Islah Party launched an attack against the government security forces in Ataq, the provincial capital, triggering intense street battles.

The conflict erupted after the appointment of a new commander to head the security units who are loyal to the Islah Party, according to local Yemeni officials.

On Wednesday the Governor of Shabwa directed the southern Giants Brigades troops to carry an operation of military force to snuff out the rebellious troops and secure local facilities of the state in Shabwa Province.

The Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council voiced its complete support for the governor of Shabwa and demanded pro-government forces to enforce peace and security in the province of strategic importance.

In the wake of the fighting and fighting, the Yemeni Council issued new decisions which included the dismissal of several of military and security leaders who were accused of staging a revolt against Shabwa local government.in Shabwa.
