Sydney, November 20, : , Former Australia cricketer Greg Chappell believes that opener David Warner plays a vital role in Test cricket.He said that Warner has proven his worth in Australia’s T20 World Cup, despite being dismissed by many. Warner, who was dropped from Sunrisers Hyderabad’s captaincy in IPL 2021, was named the player of tournament.He scored 289 runs over seven innings, an average of 48.16, and a strike rate of 146.70.This includes three half-centuries.
Although Warner may seem to be controversial, many thought he was a boring figure.
However, he proved how valuable he is in the T20 World Cup.He is more valuable in Test cricket.In setting up the game, a skilled and fast-scoring opener batsman is invaluable.”Teams with aggressive openers make opposition bowlers and captains to turn and toss at night,” Chappell wrote in Saturday’s column for The Sydney Morning Herald.
Chappell said that Marcus Harris might be Warner’s likely partner, ahead of Usman Khawaja.A complementary partner can be someone who is less aggressive and has more stroke options than Warner.
In the past, Warner’s partner was Chris Rogers and Ed Cowan.Because of his good form, Marcus Harris is likely to accompany Warner on the wicket at Brisbane.
Although Usman Khawaja might be considered, I believe he would do well in the middle order breaking down the right-handers.
Chappell also believes Khawaja is better than Travis Head in terms of the final batting spot.
This is due to his familiarity with The Gabba (the host of the Ashes Test) on December 8.
Travis Head and Khaawaja both like the ball at a long length so their skills are similar.They are both solid, but not brilliant on the field.The selectors will decide which one will be able to handle England’s attack the best.The Gabba has Khawaja’s advantage.
