The Central Team of Cyclone Jawad completes a field visit to Odisha

Bhubaneswar : , Dec 13, 2013 : .A field team of six members led by Saurav Ray of the Joint Secretary at Ministry of Home Affairs completed their assessment of Odisha’s damage caused by remnants of Cyclon Jawad, an official stated Monday.
The team visited the affected districts of Ganjam and Puri as well as Cuttack, Jajpur, Jajpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Cuttack.On Monday, they met with officials from Odisha.

Ray said that farmers suffered heavy losses at ground level due to the cyclonic rainfall.According to an official, Ray stated that famers suffering loss should receive governmental assistance and support.

According to an official, the field assessment of damage caused by remnants of the cyclone would take less than a week.The report will then be sent to the Central team.

According to preliminary estimates, the natural disaster caused severe damage to standing crops covering more than 578k hectares in 12 blocks.Bhadrak and Ganjam are the affected districts.

According to Chief Secretary Suresh Mahapatra, there were bumper crops in several districts this year.When the Cyclone struck near Odisha Coast, heavy rains caused severe damage to crops.

The farmers were given advisories to harvest the crop, and bring those to safe places as per the forecast of Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).The farmers also tried their best.

However, all the ripened crop could not be harvested and collected within a short span of time.Besides, many variety of paddies and other major crops were nearing the ripen stage, the Chief Secretary pointed out at the meeting.
