Birmingham 7 August : Australia all-rounder Tahlia McGrath, who tested positive for Covid-19, and suffering mild symptoms, was allowed to play in the team’s gold-medal game against India at Edgbaston on Sunday.
Former Australia cricketer Lisa Sthalekar had commented on-air that the toss for the gold medal matches was delayed for about 15 minutes due to Tahlia having been positive for Covid-19 and Australia required to notify the Indian team.

Images prior to the start of the game showed Tahlia sitting in the stands with mask in place and a distance from the other members of the Australia team.She did not even join the team for the national anthem, too.Tahlia’s participation in the gold medal game was approved by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

“Commonwealth Games Australia (CGA) confirms that cricketer Tahlia McGrath has tested positive for Covid-19.positive Covid-19 test.CGA medical staff have been in contact with the Commonwealth Games Federation RACEG (Results Analysis Clinical Expert Group) team and match officials and McGrath will be playing in today’s final match against India.”

“McGrath presented to the team’s management with mild symptoms on Sunday.She later returned positive for the test.She was included in the XI that started at the toss, and the International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved her participation in the final.”

“In the consultation with the CGF and the ICC, CGA and Cricket Australia medical staff have developed a variety of extensive protocols that are observed throughout the game and during post-match activities, in order to reduce the chance of transmitting to all officials and players.”

“The CGA has maintained a comprehensive risk mitigation strategy for Covid-19 to prepare for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, with testing protocols that go beyond those required by the Birmingham 2022 Organising Committee.Any further comments will be made at a later date,” said a statement from the Australian camp.
