Indian Institute of Technology has found that Clinically approved drug “Teicoplanin” works 10 times better than HCQ for treating Covid-19.
The researchers in Delhi’s Indian Institute of Technology have found that a drug called “Teicoplanin”, which is clinically approved, has the 10 times effectiveness than several drugs, including Hydroxychloroquine, for treating Covid-19.
The professor at IIT Delhi, Ashok Patel speaking to a media said the researchers have compared Teicoplanin with other main drugs in current use against SARS-CoV-2 and found the drug is 10—20 times more effective.
Patel said their research strengthened, as Sapienza University in Rome also got positive results when they clinically carried out a study with Teicoplanin.
However, he said, the researchers require a more detailed experiment regarding mild, moderate, and critically ill Covid-19 patients to get a conclusion.Teicoplanin, which is a glycopeptide antibiotic, is clinically approved by FDA and regularly used for treating Gram-positive bacterial infections.
