New Zealand scored 258 runs for five in the opening Test against Bangladesh.
Even though Latham was lost for one during the fourth session, the home team won the second and third sessions.

This was largely due to a partnership of Conway (122) with Young (52) in Test of the World Championship cycles.

They put on 138 before Young ran out.

Mominul Haque, the skipper of the visiting team won the toss. She chose to send in the hosts because she saw the green hue in the Bay Oval’s surface.

After Latham’s wicket-keeper Liton das was caught by Latham, Shoriful Islam scored first. However, Young and Conway looked reluctant to use the ball as they both tended to swing their arms a lot in the opening half hour.

They scored 14 runs during the first hour, Taskin Ahmed scoring four maidens within his five first overs. In the second hour the pair moved up the order, Conway scoring two boundaries within three balls and opening the floodgates.

Young created a new boundary in the second over and they crossed the 50-run mark in the last half an hour of session.Mominul switched to Mehidy Hasan Mraz’s spin, but the hosts held strong to make it 66/1 at lunch.

Young flied a Shoriful delivery behind to Das in his first over after lunch. However, the edge of the ball was not caught by Bangladesh’s slip cordon and an appeal was unsuccessful.

Young capitalized on Conway’s partnership by making the most of it.

Conway mentioned his half-century as a six year old, and young celebrated the same milestone by winning a sweep over Mehidy.Mominul regretted his choice to withdraw from the field and brought up their century partnership.

Mominul and Bangladesh received a reprieve after their partnership was broken by poor running.

Young wanted a quick one, so he was sent back.Najmul Hossain Hanto’s pick-up and toss to Das caught him just short of his ground.

Ross Taylor was brought out to bat by the wicket. This was his last Test at the Bay Oval.Taylor got off the mark by flicking into the leg side.He was cautious early in his innings, but made good use of EbadotHossain’s two short and broad deliveries, smashing both through the offside.

Conway crept to the other end and reached his second Test century.Conway, who had to make nearly 20 deliveries in order to get from 93 to 100 to reach his second Test century, pulled into the leg side to bring up three figures.

Taylor missed a Shadman Islamic drive on 31.It was an unfortunate blip during a great day for hosts.Conway and Henry Nicholls continued their charge, adding 38 more.

Mominul was the first to attack and Conway won the battle with his left-arm Orthodox.

Das scored 122 points on Conway’s leg side.

Tom Blundells and Nicholls seemed to have negotiated the new ball, the final hour of play.

However, Ebidot Holsain claimed Blundell with the last ball, while the right-hander played on his stumps.

Short scores: New Zealand 258/5 (Will Young 52; Devon Conway 122, Ross Taylor 31 Henry Nicholls 32, Shoriful Islam 2/53) in 87.3 Overs
