A controversial Chinese ship is spotted in Sri Lanka

Colombo 16 August : The controversies surrounding a Chinese vessel with ballistic missiles and satellite tracking capabilities that was delayed and deferred on the demand of Sri Lanka arrived on Tuesday at the island’s Hambantota port, which is managed by Beijing.
The high-tech vessel Yuan Wang 5, scheduled to arrive on August 11, was delayed due to concerns that were raised by India as well as the US and other nations.

However, on the 13th of August it was approved by the Sri Lankan government after Beijing raised the strongest opposition.

China claimed that India Sri Lanka’s most close neighbor who has supported Sri Lanka in the aftermath of the current economic downturn by providing 4 billion dollars in financial aid was the one responsible for preventing the entry of the ship.

Indicating India, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin had earlier said that it was “completely unjustified for some countries to use the term “security concerns” to press Sri Lanka”.

However, India denied China’s claims.

“We absolutely reject the insinuation and similar statement about India.Sri Lanka is a sovereign country that makes their own autonomous decisions,”India’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Arindam Bagchi said.

Following Sri Lanka cleared the Yuan Wang 5 to dock at the Hambantota port between August 16 and 22 on August 16, the Foreign Affairs Ministry in Colombo stated that this was because Sri Lanka “engaged in extensive consultations at an upper level through diplomatic channels with all parties involved” and sought “further information and materials”.
