Congress celebrates 137th birthday with less than 90 members of Parliament

New Delhi, December 28 : .While Congress celebrated Tuesday’s 137th founding day, its presence in the country has been reduced to three states, Chhattisgarh and Punjab, as well as being part of the Maharashtra-Jharkhand coalition government.
Alarmingly, there are now less than 100 MPs for the party — 87 — in each House of Parliament.

According to the Lok Sabha website only 53 Congress members are among the 542 Lower House members, while BJP has 301.The Congress is represented in Rajya Sabha by 34 members.It also has the status of leader-of-opposition.

However, it is outnumbered completely by BJP with 97 members.

In states, the Congress is being decimated, with the rise of regional parties in places where it was once strong.

This includes Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, where Congress lost out to other parties.

In Maharashtra, the Congress has been a minor partner in the Maha Vidkas Aghadi government (MVA), where it was a senior coalition partner of the NCP for fifteen years.

In Jharkhand, it also has an alliance with Jharkhand Mokti Morcha.

The Congress boasts 764 MLAs in the country, compared to the BJP’s 1,432 representatives.

It has also been reduced to single figures in Uttar Pradesh, a politically significant state (7).However, the Congress managed just 19 seats in Bihar for 2020.It has nine MLAs in Odisha while the party failed to open an account in Andhra Pradesh West Bengal, Delhi, and West Bengal.The party held power in these states, except West Bengal.

Sonia Gandhi, interim president of the Congress, stated in a video message on the occasion of its 137th birthday that the Congress will continue to protect the country’s spirit despite any electoral defeats.

Even though the Congress suffered electoral defeats in the past, it will fight on, Sonia Gandhi stated.

She added that although electoral ups or downs are expected, what’s lasting and long-lasting is the commitment of her party to all citizens of the country.

She stated that we have not and will never compromise our core beliefs, which are part of our magnificent legacy.

The Indian National Congress was founded in 1885.

Over the years, it has faced many challenges.Sonia Gandhi stated that the party has reaffirmed its commitment to the values, ideals and principles of the Indian National Congress, which was founded in 1885.

The party’s embarrassing loss in the 2014 and 2019 general election has been a significant jolt.This is more than what happened in the Emergency of 1975, which saw the Congress wiped from power.
