Paris, Dec 8, 2008 : .The Regional Health Agency of ProvenceAlpes-Cote d’Azur activated the “code-white” alert in all southern France hospitals, according to news television BFMTV.
The “code white” alert was enshrined into French law in 2004.It involves organisational measures like mobilizing backup personnel and prioritising operations to coronavirus patients for hospital in the event of a serious sanitary condition or overcrowding.

The agency released a press release saying that the outbreak’s dynamics are now affecting hospitals across the territory.

It stated that Covid has caused a sustained rise in new admissions for more than two week in conventional medicine and critical care services.

“Our department just passed the threshold of 600 cases per 100,000 people.The Public Hospital of Marseille stated Tuesday that the new contaminations have a significant impact on hospitalisations as well as intensive care units.

Hospitals in Marseille reported that 140 patients were hospitalized Monday, with 36 of these in intensive care.

Other regional health agencies in the country have also activated code white in the hospitals of Lille Lyon, Strasbourg, and Saint-Brieuc.

“Code white” was activated previously during terrorist attacks and flu pandemics.It was activated for the first time in March 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic.

France’s code white measures include increasing the number and quality of reanimation beds, transferring patients to more crowded hospitals, strengthening communication processes, installing a crisis unit, mobilising backup personnel, and prioritising coronavirus patients.
