It may be too late, but it’s important that the ICC seriously consider this as part of their other upcoming World Cricket tournaments.
This will make them more competitive with the rest.
With 16 teams participating, the format has been confirmed.The final decision will be made on December 12.T20 WC 2021 has shown that minnow teams are not qualified to play against top-level cricket.The matches are a farce, despite everyone being aware of the importance and necessity to spread cricket worldwide.While this may prolong the tournament’s duration, it drastically reduces its quality.
It is an ancient concept to create two teams and allow the top two of each group to qualify.This format was used in the creation of cricket World Cup tie.It was also followed by 1979 and 1975.The World Cup 1983 was the moment when ICC realized their error.
Teams, although grouped together, were able to play each other twice.
The teams had the chance to win a game, even though they lost it.If the previous format was followed, India might not have been able to qualify for the World Cup.
It seems that the ICC is confused by their strategy.They seem confused about their approach.On the one hand, they want to encourage participation.But on the other they seem in a rush to finish tournaments.
It was evident in the World Test Championship.
It is difficult to recognize a winner when all of the leading Test-playing teams have never played each other.There are always excuses for lack of time or scheduling.A tournament should not be conducted in an unstructured fashion.
T20 World Cup will feature the top 10 teams against one another.Similar to IPL, the top four would qualify.The top two play first to reach the final while the losers of the second match play the loser.
It was possible that both Pakistan and England could have benefited from the recent T20 WC tournament.
The semifinal matches between the top two sides of the league stage lost by the winners and they were not eligible to compete for the trophy.
Australia won the trophy, having previously lost to England.It is possible to question if this was an honest conclusion.
T20 is short and unpredictable.This is especially true for the eight top sides.
Any of them can beat the other on a given day.
This is why the grouping of teams does not make sense.Therefore, top-eight teams or 10 must play each other in order to be truly representative of a winner.
In their warm up games, India defeated Australia and England.
Because they were placed in another group, they did not draw them in the T20 World Cup 2021 final draw.This shows the inexcusable way the tournament was run.
The World Cup must be open to all top-ranked teams so that they can compete against one another.The ICC shouldn’t be concerned about completing a tournament, but rather should concentrate on identifying the winners.
