CLOSE-IN Indian cricket is flourishing , while umpiring is now the one who straggles

By Yajurvindra Singh The 2023-27 cricket calendar in the context of the Future Tours Programme (FTP) cycle announced by the ICC is a part of India playing 141 international matches. The International cricket schedule for the world will comprise 777 matches, and it is safe to say that cricket is certainly being noticed.

The most interesting thing is in determining how the different newly formed T20 leagues across the globe will find a space in the busy cricket calendar. The Indian Premier League (IPL) is fortunate to have has been granted a sway in the months it plays in is left open to play without major matches being played in other countries.

The BCCI very logically issued a statement that Indian players must abstain from participating in any other league that is limited to overs. The IPL is the BCCI’s primary property and Indian players are vital for its success.

Exclusion is of crucial importance to safeguard the IPL in every way and, without Indian cricketers other leagues may struggle to gain enough attention to turn it a lucrative option.

The issue as I mentioned in my previous articles, will be in managing the betting, gambling and match-fixing that could arise in order to maintain the leagues struggling financially in the game.

One is left wondering what the boards and the ICC will be able to deal with this.

Cricket should not become an arena for such activities since it will erode the very essence of the game that is considered to be royal.

The growth in the number of domestic and international games will require a lot more experienced umpires and match referees who are qualified.Indian cricket has seen a boom in the creation of cricketers, however, umpiring is one of the areas that is still in the back of.The most recent Level 2 umpiring test held in Ahmedabad produced a shocking outcome with only three candidates qualified candidates out of more than 140 applicants.

The reason for the poor performance is due to the fact that the BCCI puts the burden upon states to choose two candidates for the test.

Unfortunately, this results in favorites being chosen by the associations in question. The time is now for the BCCI to establish an umpiring system that is properly graduated.

It should be available to all and not be limited by the associations.A system that can grade each candidate and filter out those who aren’t suitable should be put in place.

Umpiring in the past was a fervent pastime, but it was impossible to earn money by making a living out of it.In India the present it is an extremely lucrative option for those who want to pursue it than it was prior to.

In the IPL and in the Indian domestic cricket, the umpiring hasn’t been of an acceptable quality. There is a chance of an appeal in the IPL however, in the domestic game, with the DRS as a possibility one can see some poor decisions.

Players have been vocally criticising the level of umpiring in India. This is a signal to make immediate improvements. If the judiciary of the sport of cricket is in doubt then the credibility of the game is lost.

Cricket, as it is said is a religious practice in India.

Cricket is played in every part of the country. The world is envious of the cricket structure India is able to put in place.

It is therefore shocked that only three umpires have been on the international team since it was established. This is extremely tragic and difficult to comprehend.

Umpiring is a field that is so important in cricket, yet in India it hasn’t been considered a serious issue at the junior stage onwards. One hopes for an improvement in the near future.

The main issue for Indian cricket is in getting their team selected to participate in the Asia Cup to be held in the UAE starting in August 27, 2022.India begins their match against arch-rival Pakistan on the 28th of August.

This match is expected to be an exciting match because India will be hoping to taking revenge from the humiliating loss they suffered against them in the ICC T20 World Cup in Dubai last year.

The Indian team appears impressive on paper and is one that is likely to emerge victorious.

They boast world class batters in Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, along with three skilled all-rounders in Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja. The pace bowling in India is stocked with an array of options, and is led by the best pacer in the world, Jasprit Bumrah.

The main issue for Indian players is their mental state of mind.It seems that they struggle when playing Pakistan in the UAE.

It is hoped that Indian players will be with a vengeance in the Asia Cup, a tournament which they have had success in the past.
