The emerging filmmakers embrace new challenges and are willing to accept them.
The Hyphen is a private company that supports budding filmmakers.

It has chosen 10 film-making groups from across the country to make short documentary films on social issues.

Each team will receive training in creating the documentary.

One lakh will be awarded to the best document. Each team will also receive a grant to make their documentary.

Each team has been given one film to present for the selection.Cine Impact Fellowship is now being awarded to the selected teams based on their short films.

The jury consists of four members: Saibal Chatterjee (National Award-winning Film Critic); Utpal Borpujari (National Award-winning Film Critic; Arnab Bankerjee (film critic, journalist) and Faisal Khan (film critic, curator).

Arpesh, the founder of The Hyphen, said that they were looking for ways to increase awareness about diverse social issues.

One of our brainstorming sessions revealed that there were many talented young filmmakers looking to improve their craft and show their creativity in a more productive way.Cine Impact was born.We teamed up with film critics, filmmakers and other organizations to make a great collaboration.Cine Impact Film Fellowship was created to encourage independent filmmaking on social issues by young Indian filmmakers.”We wanted the top filmmakers.”

Utpal Bhorpujari, a film critic and member of the jury spoke out about the criteria for selection. He stated that the films were selected based on their overall rating average.Films were judged on their treatment, execution and concept.

While technical competence was important, the jury was more focused on the end result of their visions.

He said, “The films presented ideas that are relevant and broad-ranging to current times.” Some films exceeded the expectations of our jury.As a Assami, it is a joy that “Dead Birds on the Wire”, a film by the Maati group, which was filmed in Golaghat’s small town, made it into the final selection.

Aditya is a young filmmaker who belongs to Brain Tikka. He has four other members, Harshil Tewatia and Harshvardhan Omha, as well as Arjun Roy.Their short film, “Diya”, has been chosen.

Aditya is a self-learn filmmaker from Lucknow.

He also holds a BSc Honours degree in mathematics from Delhi University. He said that the idea of shooting the movie remained with him for many years before I was able to execute it.It took me several weeks to get it down.We shot the movie in just one week at Delhi University South Campus, Satya Niketan, and Kailash Colony.

The concept was explained by him.He said that migrating from small towns to big cities can bring with it a lot fear and anxiety, particularly for those who were raised in patriarchal families and may be the first to leave their home.Although I’ve personally experienced this apprehension, it is not something that is often discussed. The new city was not meant to be a danger, but I felt it necessary to show that even a safe place can still pose a risk.

Even more crucial is to listen and see beyond what they say.

Harishwaran Raja is from Bengaluru and has created a short film called ‘The Brahma.’ This is the story of two close friends. The shoot was completed by Harishwaran (from the Indian Academy Degree College) in five days.Aditya said, “We had prepared three months before shooting the film.”

His short film “The Brahma” is silent. The original idea was to create a dark, social comedy film but there wasn’t enough money. The film was silent, but without any dialogue.

I made the decision to create a deaf, dumb and blind character. We started as such. The film was directed by me.
