China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs released a statement saying that 15 Arunachal Pradesh locations have been standardized and will be included on Chinese maps.

It is now the second time that China has changed the name of Arunachal Pradesh’s places.China changed the names of six locations in 2017

Two days before the implementation of new border laws, renaming names is done.

The Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (China’s highest legislative body) passed an updated law on October 23.It cited “protection & exploitation of the country’s border areas”.According to the committee, the new law would be effective from January 1.

This law does not apply to India’s border.China shares its 22.457km land border with 14 countries, including India. This is the longest boundary after Russia and Mongolia.

There are 62 articles in the new border law and 7 chapters.

The law requires that the People’s Republic of China will place boundary markers at all of its borders on land to mark the boundaries.

It is up to the concerned neighboring state to decide what type of marker they want.

Further, the law stated that People’s Liberation Army and Chinese People’s Armed Police Force would maintain security at the border. This includes cooperating locally with authorities to combat illegal border crossings.

It prohibits anyone from engaging in activities in border areas that could “endanger national safety or affect China’s friendly relations avec neighbouring countries”.This includes any construction of permanent buildings without authorization from the relevant authority.

It also stated that local and citizen organisations have been mandated by the government to maintain border security, protect and defend border infrastructures and ensure stability and security.

This law sets the stage for development in the region.

The law states that the People’s Republic of China will engage in education and propagandism to “solidify and promote the spirit of China”, to strengthen the nation’s sense of unity, territorial integrity, national security and citizens’ perceptions of China and to build a shared spiritual home for Chinese citizens living along the border.

The state has the ability to take actions “to strengthen border defense, support economic, social development, as well as open-up in frontier areas,” improve public services, infrastructure, and encourage people’s lives and work in these areas.

This suggests that there is a push for settlement of civilians along the borders.

This law is being made amid a border dispute between India and China.

Experts believe that Beijing will continue to resent the Line of Actual Control’s current position.

India asserts that China illegally occupies 38,000 square kilometers of India’s Aksai Chin territory, bordering eastern Ladakh.

In 1963, Pakistan gave China approximately 5,180 km of Indian territory it had illegally taken.

India and China have been engaged in border dispute for 20 months.

Diplomatic and military negotiations are ongoing to solve the problems.
