Beijing Beijing, August 6 : As tensions escalate between the US and China after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan earlier in the week, Beijing said that it had stopped cooperating with Washington in various important Areas that include military talks and climate change according to the media reports. In a statement released on Friday in Beijing, the Foreign Ministry in Beijing said that the dialogue between American and Chinese defense officials would be canceled as well as cooperation regarding the return of illegal immigrants, climate change and investigating international crimes will be suspended, according to the BBC.
According to the Ministry the decision was made due to Pelosi traveled to Taiwan “in the face of China’s massive opposition and serious representations”.
The decision on Friday is a sign that China continued its massive military exercises in Taiwan that were announced on Tuesday in response to Pelosi’s visit.
The Foreign Ministry in Taipei said on Saturday that the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has sent an “record amount” of military aircraft and naval vessels to zones within the island.
In the course of their military drills the PLA also launched 11 ballistic missiles in Taiwan’s direction.
One of which flew directly over Taiwan and landed close to the capital Taipei for the first time, according to reports.
Five more missiles also landed in the east of Taiwan in Japan’s economic zone in an act widely believed to be an attempt to warn Tokyo to remain from the midst of the war.
The exercises are scheduled to run until Sunday.
The trip of the most powerful US politician from the US to Taiwan in the past 25 years has sparked outrage in Beijing China, which claims Taiwan as a part of its territory however, the island has been self-governing since 1949.
China has also imposed sanctions that are not specific to Pelosi “and the immediate family members of her”.
