New Delhi, December 30, : .Chinese footballers must undergo painful tattoo removals or they risk getting booed by their national team, Daily Mail reports. In 2018, when some players had to hide their tattoos in order to play, the General Administration of Sport (GAS), has taken it a step beyond.
GAS’s latest action was to ban tattoos and ask that any person with tattoos already on their body get rid of them. This is to “set an example” for Chinese society.
The GAS stated that “the national team and U-23 athletes cannot have new tattoos and anyone with tattoos is advised to get them removed.”
It added that players must conceal tattoos during matches and training if there is a special circumstance.
China is known to have been involved in the appearances of players, with the 2018 women’s soccer match being canceled after the players received instructions that dyed hair was not allowed.
In China, tattoos were treated with contempt. However, their popularity is growing among younger adults and footballers.
Zhang Linpeng, Guangzhou FC’s ink-crawling player is one of these players.
The report stated that new rules could prove to be problematic for young players who have received any tattoos.
This would result in their expulsion from national team.
