New Delhi, December 25, : .The Congress on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s turf has been out of power since 1989.
It could not remove the BJP from the state except for Shankar Singh Vaghela’s temporary government formed with Congress support. Although the party has lost power in UP as well, it still holds the hope of being a major challenger in Gujarat to the BJP.Meanwhile AAP is trying hard to gain entry into Gujarat.The Congress performed well in 2017 but was unable to reach the magic number.Later, its MLAs joined the BJP fold.However, BJP won the 2019 general election and Congress may now be able to win even one seat.
The Congress was given a new team to counter AAP/BJP.Raghu Sharma is the state in-charge, Koli leader, and ex-member of Lok Sabha Jagdish Thakor has been appointed State President.
Arjun Modwadia, former state president, said that AAP was not a major challenge, but the BJP is.He also stated, “We have to fight the perception front that Congress can defeat BJP.” To highlight the failures of BJP, the party will organize a number of agitations.
Rahul Gandhi, former president of Congress Gujarat, held a marathon meeting and discussed the forthcoming assembly elections in Gujarat.
These are expected to take place in December 2012.
Hardik Patel, a Congress member who raised the Patidar issue and the pending demands regarding agitation in 2015 has been brought in by Congress to join the attack on the BJP.Patel reiterated earlier requests regarding various issues related to Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti’s (PAAS) agitation.
Patel is working president of Gujarat Congress and has justified his and the PAAS demands for reservation in Patidar by pointing out that both the Centre and state government had provisions for giving reservation to the backward and poor classes, and a 10% quota to economically backward uppercastes.
During the Patidar reservation movement, which began in Gujarat in July 2015, 438 cases were recorded.During that period, 14 Patidar youths were killed.
Hardik Patel wrote to Bhupendra Patel, Chief Minister, that 391 cases had been withdrawn by the Gujarat government after the PAAS agitation.However, this promise has not been fulfilled.
Although the Congress was a formidable challenge for the BJP at the last assembly election, it was defeated in 2021 municipal elections.However, BJP had swept Gujarat, and the Aam Aadmi Party, or AAP, made gains in Gujarat’s urban centers, which are a greater threat to Congress.
Arvind Kejriwal, AAP’s national chief and Delhi Chief Minister had secured 27 seats at the Gujarat Municipal Election held in February.He stated that Gujaratis have voted for performance politics because they are fed up of the politics of BJP.
To counter anti-incumbency, the BJP has been changing its entire state team.The BJP also won the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation elections (GMC), which were held in October.
In Okha, Gujarat and Thara municipalities, the BJP won two additional civic bodies.

Modi won Delhi with a strong BJP grip.However, the Congress is keen to have this state send a signal before the next big election in India.
