Centre to set up 2 runways on National Highway in Prakasam district

The Union Government is constructing runways (airstrips) on national and state highways for aircraft landing in regions that do not have airports.It is planning to build these airstrips in 13 places across the country.

In the Prakasam district in Andhra Pradesh alone, two airstrips are reported to be built.The first airstrip will be built between Korishapadu-Reningavaram in Prakasam district and the second at Kalikivaya-Singarayakonda underpass in Singarayakonda.

The runway, which is made of cement, has two gates on either side.An air traffic control tower is being set up.An airstrip with a length of 5km will be built between Korishapadu and Renigavaram at a cost of Rs.23.77 crore.The airstrip is being constructed with a width of 60 meters so that four aircraft can land at once.

An airstrip of 3.60 km will be constructed between Kalikivaya and Singarayakonda for emergency landing of aircraft.The estimated cost for this airstrip is Rs 52 crore.The runway will be made of concrete with a width of 33 m.The ATC building will be constructed 150 meters from the runway.Currently, the construction of the concrete road for the runway is underway.
