The Cyclone Jawad Damage Assessment Team from Odisha

Bhubaneswar (12/12/IANS) A central team of interministerial officials, headed by Saurav Ray (Joint Secretary Ministry of Home Affairs), is currently in Odisha, to evaluate the losses from Cyclone Jawad.

Three teams were formed from the six members of the team.One sub-team will visit Ganjam, Puri, while the other one will evaluate losses in Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, and Jajpur districts.The third sub-team will be in Jajpur, Kendrapara, and Kendrapara.

He said that all three sub-teams had left for affected areas.

He stated, “Although no significant damage to infrastructure has been done by the cyclone,”

Jena said that the assessment of agricultural damage is a little difficult.”We have informed the team about districts which were affected by the Cyclone Jawad.Once we get the district-wise damage assessment report, we will submit our memorandum to the Centre,” he added.

After carrying an assessment of damages and losses caused, the Central team will again hold discussion with state government officials in Bhubaneswar before returning to Delhi on December 13.

The cyclone reached near Odisha coast in the form of a depression on December 5 before moving towards West Bengal.
