The Central government will today hold an emergency meeting with the Krishna and Godavari River Management Boards regarding the disputes between the two Telugu states.Krishna Board Chairman MP Singh and Godavari Board Chairman Chandrasekhar Iyer will attend the meeting.
This meeting will be chaired by the Union Water Energy Ministry Secretary in Delhi.
The Krishna and Godavari River Boards will focus on the scope of projects, views expressed by the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on the gazette notification, objections, amendments, etc., as well as approvals for projects under construction on the Krishna and Godavari rivers.
On July 15 2021, the Union Ministry of Water-Energy issued a gazette notification regarding the Krishna and Godavari River waters.
However, the gazette notification will be in effect from October 14.
Both the Telugu state governments have objected to the provisions in the Gazette notification seeking permission for projects on the Krishna and Godavari rivers to be approved by October 14 or halt those projects.
The views expressed by the states of Telangana and AP will also be discussed at the meeting.A final decision on this would be taken based on the views of the chairmen of the Krishna and Godavari River Boards.
