Kolkata 21 August : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Sunday conducted a search operation at the home of Bidyut Baran Gayen who is a close friend of Anubrata Mondal, who was arrested Trinamool Congress strongman, Anubrata Mondal in connection with the multi-crore cattle smuggling fraud.The raids took place at Gayen’s home in Kalikapur area in Bolpur in Birbhum district of West Bengal.
Gayen is the Director 2nd in two firms, ANM Agrochem Foods Pvt Ltd and Neer Developer Pvt Ltd, in which the other director is Mondal’s daughter Sukanya Mondal.The rice mill that is owned by her also bears the name of Gayen as an associate.
CBI sources claimed that until the last few years, Gayen was just an ordinary clerk with Bolpur Municipality.”We would like to figure out how, from being a regular municipal employee, Gayen earned such huge property in the past few years and was even the Director of the two companies,” a CBI official said.
The CBI experts strongly believe that these two companies were shell companies designed to channel the profits of cattle trafficking, which they did in disguise of massive amounts of non-secured loans.
In the meantime, legal minds have raised a second question that should be brought to the attention of the Calcutta High Court and more specifically the bench of Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay, could cause trouble for Sukanya Mondal.
