Cattlesmuggling Case: CBI summons 2 doctors for bed rest recommendations to Anubrata Mondal

Kolkata 12 August : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigating the cattle smuggling issue in West Bengal has now summoned two doctors who are affiliated with Bolpur Sub- Division Hospital in Birbhum district in connection with the 14-day rest medical recommendation, which Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal tried to use as a cover to evade central agency’s summons for interrogation.
The primary doctor is Chandra Adhikari, attached to Bolpur Sub-Division Hospital, who was reportedly at the residence of Mondal one day prior to Mondal’s arrest on Thursday morning and gave him the 14-day bed rest recommendation written on white paper.

The CBI investigators will ask him regarding the specifics of the circumstances in which he issued that sheet of paper medical advice that is against the medical ethics of all doctors.

The second doctor being investigated is Dr.Buddhadeb Murmu, the superintendent of Bolpur Sub-Division Hospital, who, according to Adhikari, directed him to visit Mondal’s house and give the bed rest guidelines in white paper.

Murmu had told media representatives that he was forced to act on the directives of his superior authorities.

CBI sources have said that their sleuths would question the suspect on what he actually was referring to by “higher authorities”.”By using higher authorities, did he refer to his reporting officer who is the chief medical officer of health in Birbhum district or any top official in the state health department’s headquarter at Swastha Bhawan in Kolkata,” a CBI associate said.

In the meantime, Mondal was brought to CBI’s Nizam Palace office in Kolkata late about 3 a.m.Sources told reporters that a distraught Mondal was crying several of times over the course of the journey.When he reached the Nizam Palace office, he was provided with a camp-cot for a rest.

CBI will begin interviewing him about the cattle smuggling fraud from Friday only.

As per the direction of the court of special jurisdiction of CBI in Asansol, in case of medical emergencies, Mondal has to be treated at the Command Hospital in Kolkata.

CBI detectives have already contacted with the Command Hospital authorities, who have formed a three medical board of three members for this purpose .They have also reserved an additional bed in the secluded part of the hospital.

According to the court’s order Mondal is scheduled to be transported to the Command Hospital for medical check every interval of every 48 hours.
