BSF and BGB mark the Golden Jubilee for 1971’s B’desh War Victory

Shillong/Agartala : , The Border Security Force and Border Guards Bangladesh have jointly organized a number of events in order to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Independence of Bangladesh.They also wanted to highlight the contribution of BSF to the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.
A “Joint Cultural Programme”, part of celebrations of the Golden Jubilee, was held Monday at the Integrated Check Post (Dawki in Meghalaya border of the BSF).

Officials from the BSF stated that the goal of all these joint events was to honor “Mukti Yaddhas”, (freedom fighters), of both countries, who bravely fought for their “genuine cause” and enjoyed “excellent cooperation between the two.”

On Monday, veterans of war were honored.While war veterans shared their stories of battle, popular cultural troupes from India and Bangladesh performed various acts.

More than 500 people from each country, dignitaries and eminent figures were there along with BSF and BGB senior officers.

Officials from the BSF stated that these events at the border will further increase the sense of peace and trust among border people on both sides.

Agartala hosted a similar cultural program on Sunday night at the Agartala ICP, which is located along Bangladesh’s Akhaura frontier.

Tripura Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury and Agartala based Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh Mohammad Jobayed Hosen among others were present in the function, where felicitations were accorded to the personalities who participated in the 1971 Bangladesh liberation war.

The 1971 war led to the birth of sovereign Bangladesh from East Pakistan.

The BSF, right from the beginning, played a very significant role in the 1971 Liberation War and heroically fought shoulder to shoulder with the Indian Army.

According to the BSF officials, 23 BSF units were deployed under the Army’s operational control and they performed their bravery in both defensive and offensive actions against enemy positions both independently and in coordination with the Army as well.

India and Bangladesh share a 4,096 km border with West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Meghalaya and Mizoram and BSF have been successfully manning the frontiers while BGB guarding their borders with the two border guarding force working in tandem.
