New Delhi, Aug 17 : The Centre on Wednesday informed the Supreme Court that it is having discussions with FIFA officials and the breaking of the ice could happen in the near future, since the government is working to remove the suspension of All India Football Federation (AIFF) that was which was imposed by FIFA.Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre presented before the bench led by Justice D.Y.Chandrachud, that the government is considering the matter of the suspension of AIFF by FIFA and that two meetings have been held with FIFA officials.FIFA officials.
“We are at a certain point where breaking of the ice is occurring.Discussions are taking place and everyone is involved in the discussion.some way to find out (the government has made every effort),” said Mehta.
Senior lawyer Rahul Mehra argued to the bench the former AIFF president Praful Patel should not be allowed to talk with FIFA officials.FIFA officials.
Mehta told the court that only officials from the government and authorized individuals are conducting conversations with FIFA officials.They are also trying to come up with a solution to resolve the issue.
Justice Chandrachud said, “Country should host the tournament.it is a fantastic event for kids under 17 years old.” .” The bench said that the focus should be on solving the problem (suspension of AIFF by FIFA).
The supreme court ruled that the Central government should take an proactive role in resolving the issue of holding the tournament and also ensure that the lifting of suspension of AIFF is in the right direction.
FIFA, the apex soccer body has been forced to suspend AIFF with “immediate impact due to influence of third-party organizations” which could jeopardize the country’s hosting of the World Cup for U-17 women in October.
AIFF will be banned from playing until the end of October.AIFF is not able to participate in any international match until the ban has been lifted.
“The Bureau of the FIFA Council has voted unanimously to suspend the All India Football Federation (AIFF) with immediate effect due to the influence of other parties.This is an egregious violation of the FIFA Statutes,” stated an official press release published by FIFA.
The suspension is lifted when an order is issued to create an administration committee of administrators to take over the duties of the AIFF Executive Committee is annulled and the AIFF administration is able to take the full oversight of the AIFF’s day-to-day affairs according to the statement.
On August 3 the apex court given directions to conduct elections to the AIFF executive committee in advance of the hosting of the U-17 women’s World Cup by India.
Following this decision the Committee of Administrators (CoA) moved a contempt motion seeking the instigation of contempt proceedings against the former AIFF president Praful Patel as well as the representatives of seven state associations, accusing them of inadvertently stymieing the court’s order to conduct elections for the AIFF.
