The Indian Premier League governing body has announced the retention policy for IPL 11. All 8 IPL Franchises are allowed to retain a maximum number of 5 players by virtue of a combination of Player Retentions and Right to Match. A Franchise can have a maximum of either 3 retentions or 3 RTM. If in case a franchise goes with 3 retentions, they can only use 2 RTM cards. If they retain 2 players, then 3 RTM cards can be used. Even if the franchise didn’t retain any player, franchises can have up to 3 RTM during the auction.

These are the rules/restrictions on retention/RTM :

* Maximum number of 3 capped Indian players.
* Maximum number of 2 Overseas players.
* Maximum number of 2 uncapped Indian players.

Now you may ask what about Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, the teams which are making thier comeback after 2 years of suspension. They can retain the players from their 2015 squad. That means, CSK can retain Dhoni, Raina, Jadeja, Bravo and also Mccullum depending upon their requirement. Rajasthan can retain Smith, Rahane and Faulkner.

Team’s salary caps has also been increased. They are as follows :

2018 – INR 80 Crore
2019 – INR 82 Crore
2020 – INR 85 Crore

Teams should spend 75% of the salary cap at minimum note. The squad should not exceed 25 players. Overseas players limit is 8.

There are 3 options in price guideline of player retention :

Case 1 :

Player 1 – 15 cr
Player 2 – 11 cr
Player 3 – 7cr

Case 2 :

Player 1 – 12.5 cr
Player 2 – 8.5 cr

Case 3 :

Player 1 – 12.5 cr
