Abu Dhabi, 23 November : .Former Pakistani spinner Mushtaq Ahmad, currently head coach for Abu Dhabi T10 side Deccan Gladiators has stated that bowlers must be “large-hearted”, in order to successfully execute their plans in the tournament, where the batters chase the bowlers starting from the first ball. The Gladiators won by 24 runs over the Chennai Braves on Monday to kick off their campaign for Season 5 in Abu Dhabi T10.
Mushtaq (a former leg spinner for Pakistan) spoke during the press conference after the match.He said that “Temperament in T10 is very important.” To be successful in the competition, bowlers must show great spirit.From the first ball, the batters chase the bowlers and spinners.My bowlers have to be big-hearted and want wickets.
Mushtaq reflected on his experiences working with Wanindu Hasaranga, a T20 player from Sri Lanka.He has been a good friend and I shared my leg-spin knowledge with him.He has been very open to my knowledge about leg-spin.Talks have been had about the various variations and how to use both the leg-breaks and the googly.We also discussed how to use creases.He must turn the ball in both directions, I told him.”We have also been discussing leg-spin angles.”
He also stated that the Abu Dhabi T10 coach must think outside the box.
When a coach changes from one style to another, it can cause a significant change in the coaching approach.Our team bats while we have four to five batsmen who need to be prepared to step into the field.
Our batsmen are assigned according to what is happening in the match.The coach must be proactive in taking out-of-the box decisions in T10.
Mushtaq said also that Deccan Gladiators might reach the Abu Dhabi T10 final if they play up to their potential.
In T10, every team can be dangerous.T10 is not a place to be taken lightly.A batsman who plays for more than two runs can win the match.
To win a tournament, a team must believe in its own ability.Although our team is strong, it’s important that we play the best possible cricket.
