It could be the friendship of the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) with a 4 percent reservations for Muslims, Urdu as second official language of the state, or the demand to name Hyderabad as Bhagynagar The leaders of the saffron-based party appear to always find issues that could cause a polarisation of the community.

Many times, BJP leaders made sensational claims regarding the Old City of Hyderabad, the political capital of AIMIM.They attempted to portray this section of Hyderabad as a hub of anti-national activities.

The BJP has been on the offensive since after it won four Lok Sabha seats in the state in 2019 and also won in two Assembly by-elections.It also significantly boosted its total in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

Proclaiming itself as the only alternative to TRS and the TRS, the BJP leaders are confident of a possibility of becoming the ruling party in the state after it is up to elections in 2023.

Political analysts have said that in the past, BJP has been raking up issues that are emotionally charged, which could assist in getting the votes of the majority of the population particularly in areas in and around Hyderabad and in other urban pockets of the state.

They refer to Muslim rule in the former Hyderabad State, the tumultuous changes of post-independence that led to Hyderabad’s admission with the Indian Union (September 17, 1948) and the political dominance of AIMIM in certain parts of Hyderabad and apparent policy of appeasement of successive administrations — all of these serve as a source of ammunition for BJP’s polarisation politics.

Since Bandi Sanjay became the BJP state president in 2020 the party has gone into exuberance to draw political mileage from controversial issues.

In what is believed to be an attempt to take on AIMIM on its own territory, he launched his state-wide Praja Sangram Yatra starting from the Bhagyalaxmi temple that is located near the historical Charminar.

In actual fact the temple’s legality was repeatedly questioned in the past, sparking tensions within the community, has become the focus of the BJP’s political agenda over the recent few of years.

BJP has launched its campaign for GHMC elections in 2020 from the same temple. The temple was visited by Union Home Minister Amit Shah at the time of GHMC polls , and by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in July at the BJP’s National Executive Committee meeting that was held in the city.

BJP MLA Raja Singh’s expulsion by the party following he uploaded a video that contained insulting remarks regarding Prophet Mohammad in the month of October was seen as a move by the saffron-colored party’s Central leadership to avoid another embarrassing situation on the international level following Nupur Sharma’s sexist remarks.

Analysts say that Raja Singh was a habitual offenders who sought to incite discord within the community with his provocative remarks.

In the wake of his defamatory video, which led to massive protests and caused disturbances The TRS government took a stand and sent the actor to prison after invoking Preventive Detention (PD) Act.

The MLA from the Goshamahal constituency in Hyderabad has had 101 criminal cases filed against the politician since 2004.According to police reports, he was implicated in 18 offences against the community.

The tone and the tenor of BJP leaders in public meetings in recent months have shown that Raja Singh was not just an unintentional flash in the pan.Bandi Sanjay, along with others state BJP leaders have also been making provocative remarks.

Sanjay who is an Member of Lok Sabha from Karimnagar He was accused of giving the infamous “hate speech” in May.Police complaints were lodged against Sanjay at various police stations in the state for making provocative comments against madrasas and mosques.

The BJP leader had demanded the excavation of all mosques, claiming that Muslim rulers in Telangana destroyed numerous temples and built mosques on top of them.

He said that there was a chance of being able to find Shiva Lingams underneath.

The BJP MP also said that should BJP becomes the ruling party in Telangana the party will eliminate all madrasas, eliminate the madrasas with reservations for Muslims and eliminate Urdu as the official second language.
