New Delhi, Nov 24, : The BJP launched a campaign to get 100 votes from the minority in each polling booth in an effort to win support for minorities, particularly Muslims, in next year’s Uttarakhand Assembly elections.The campaign was conducted in booths that are dominated by minorities throughout the state. Jamal Siddiqui, the president of BJP Minority Morcha, told IANS that a campaign was being launched to get 100 votes from all the polling stations in the state.
The campaign “One booth, 100 votes” has begun and will continue until the next Assembly election.
Siddiqui stated that workers from the BJP’s minor morcha will be working to ensure that the party candidate in minority dominated booths gets at least 100 votes by reaching out to the community, especially Muslims, during the campaign.
The BJP Minority Morcha workers reach out to members of the minority community to dispel any misconceptions about the party or Narendra Modi’s government.
“Our workers are explaining the Modi government’s welfare initiatives which have benefited all, including Muslims and other minorities.Siddiqui stated that Modi has not discriminated against anyone based on religion over the past seven years, and that only opposition parties have created a false narrative.
Over 15% of the Uttarakhand population is Muslim.Sikhs make up around 3 percent of the state’s population, while others make up less than 1%.While Muslims are not in a dominant position in any of 13 districts, they play a critical role in writing the electoral fortunes for any party.
Along with Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Manipur, and Goa, the Uttarakhand Assembly elections will be held in February-March 2013.
The BJP state unit has launched several campaigns to strengthen its organisational structure at ground level, including the formation of a 21-member committee at each booth and its verification.
