Former President of India Pranab Mukherjee dies.His son Abhijit Mukherjee confirms the news.
Veteran President of India and Bharat Ratna awardee Pranab Mukherjee has recently passed away due to multiple causes of illness.The news is confirmed by his son Abhijit Mukherjee through an emotional tweet “With a Heavy Heart, this is to inform you that my father Shri #PranabMukherjee has just passed away inspite of the best efforts of Doctors of RR Hospital & prayers, duas & prarthanas from people throughout India! I thank all of You 🙏” (sic).
Pranab was the 13th president of India from 2012 to 2017.He had served the nation over five decades and held several positions as a congress leader including Defence, Finance and Home Ministry.
He was honoured with India’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna in 2019 by the president of India Ram Nath Kovind.
The 84-year-old Pranab was admitted in a hospital to carry a brain clot surgery but soon affected with Covid-19.
From the past week, he was in a coma and on ventilator support.The whole country is saddened by his demise and expressed their condolences through social media.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi too is completely shocked by the news and shared his experience with Pranab through a series of tweets saying “India grieves the passing away of Bharat Ratna Shri Pranab Mukherjee.He has left an indelible mark on the development trajectory of our nation.
A scholar par excellence, a towering statesman, he was admired across the political spectrum and by all sections of society.” (sic).
