Kolkata 5 August : The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigating the Cattle smuggling saga in West Bengal has summoned Trinamool Congress strongman and the party’s Birbhum district chief Anubrata Montdal for questioning on the 8th of August.Mondal is expected to attend CBI’s Nizam Palace office in central Kolkata on Monday.
However, it’s not yet clear if Mondal will be able to visit the CBI office on the date scheduled.”There is a lot of time to go,” was Mondal’s brief response to the summons.
The developments follow recent raids conducted by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) at Birbhum, the residence of three of Mondal’s close associatesthree of his close associates – Kerim Khan, Tudu Mondal and Mukti Sheikh.
Kerim Khan is one of the suspects in the case, and is under the surveillance of the CBI due to of his suspected involvement in an incident that occurred after the polls closed, in which Mondal has been questioned by CBI’s sleuths.
According to the CBI, Kerim Khan is believed to be the primary route coordinator for Cattle smuggling from Birbhum to the districts bordering of Malda and Murshidabad from where heads of Cattle were transported into neighboring Bangladesh.
