Vilnius (Lithuania) Vilnius (Lithuania), Aug 10, : Belarusian Opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya has announced her own team of people who are ready to lead Belarus, in order to replace the president Alexander Lukashenko. Two years later, after he returned to the presidency in elections widely believed to be rigged, Tikhanovskaya presented the United Transitional Cabinet on Tuesday, in Vilnius where she lives in exile.
She has appointed the initial members of the body which aims to represent Belarus the nation’s interests, and bring about change in Belarus’ democratic system as well as restore the rule of law, she said.
The group doesn’t have the power of the state, but is operating out of an exile base, she added.
Some of the members in the group are lawmakers from the Opposition who were members of the Belarusian leadership, the dpa news agency reported.
Lukashenko provoked unprecedented protests after he declared himself to be the winner of Belarusian elections on the 9th of August the 9th of August, 2020.
The protests were put down due to a massive clampdown.
Tikhanovskaya who also has claimed winning in the vote, emigrated to Lithuania after the election.
