Berlin, Nov 28, : German giants Bayern Munich won a hard-earned victory over resilient Arminia Bielefeld with a 1-0 win.The lone goal by Leroy Sane in round 13 of the Bundesliga was the only goal. In a Saturday night game, the Bavarians took control of the game from the beginning and forced Bielefeld into the defense.Bayern had several chances in the first stages.
Thomas Muller went wide in the sixth minute, before Alphonso Davies scored a dangerous goal from close range with 15 minutes remaining.
Despite promising opportunities, the hosts defeated Arminia’s defense but Bayern was inefficient as neither Robert Lewandowski nor Leroy Sane could beat Bielefeld Stefan Ortega, the visitors’ goalkeeper.
Xinhua reports that Arminia tried a few fast breaks, but they couldn’t do any damage to Bayern’s well-positioned defense in the first 45 minutes.Bayern took control of the match again after the restart, as Sane and Muller continued to waste opportunities in front of the target during the first period of the second-half.
Lewandowski should have broken a deadlock at the hour mark but the Pole missed the farpost with all the space and time from within the box.Bayern’s pressure paid off when a combination via Muller allowed Sane, who had just 71 minutes to go, to open the scoring with a well placed curl from the box’s edge into the top right corner.
The hosts tried to score another goal but Ortega denied Kingsley Coman at the 77th minute.Serge Gnabry was unable to get through the woodwork after a solo run a few moments later.Bayern Munich won the 10th campaign victory.Arminia Bielefeld remained at 17th, which is a direct relegation spot.
“It was a labored victory.We are pleased that we won all three points at home.Bielefeld was a solid defender and made our lives difficult, but it was important that we keep a clean sheet today,” Bayern captain Manuel Neuer stated.
Borussia Dortmund, Donyell Malen, Emre Can and Erling Haaland scored goals to defeat Wolfsburg 3-1 in a late Saturday match.
Both teams staged a lively first period, as Dortmund’s Marco Reus put the test on Wolfsburg keeper Pavao Pevan, with just two minutes remaining before Wout Weghorst scored with his chest from close range seconds later.
