Mahmudullah, Bangladesh, resigns from Test cricket

Dhaka, Nov 24, : Veteran Bangladesh cricketer Mahmudullah announced his retirement from Test cricket on Wednesday, according to the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
The 35-year old made his Test debut in 2009 and played in 50 matches.He scored 2914 runs at 33.49 and also took 43 wickets.During his 12-year-long career in the longest format of cricket, he also captained Bangladesh for six tests.

He played his 50th Test against Zimbabwe earlier in the year at Harare Sports Club.

The all-rounder was in a historic moment as he played 150* in the first innings of Bangladesh’s 220-run victory over Zimbabwe and was awarded Player of the Match.

Mahmudullah informed his teammates on day three that he would not be continuing his career in the longest format.

On the last morning of the match, he was also presented with a guard of honour by them.

However, the BCB had not officially recognized Mahmudullah’s retirement and they were still pondering if it was an emotional decision.

The call has been made official by the batting all-rounder.

It is difficult to leave a format I have been part of for so long.

Mahmudullah stated that he had always hoped to go on a high and that this was the right time to end his Test career.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the BCB President, for his support when I returned to the Test Team.

I want to thank my teammates and support staff for believing in me and always encouraging.It was an absolute honor and privilege to play Test cricket in Bangladesh, and I will treasure the many memories,” he said.

Mahmudullah, despite quitting Test cricket has made it clear that his desire to continue playing in ODIs or T20Is is not for him.

He said, “Although my Test career is over, I will still be playing ODIs in T20 internationals and I’m looking forward to continuing my efforts for my country in white cricket.”
