Rajnath Singh: The Bangladesh War of Liberation was a moral struggle against injustice

New Delhi : , Monday, November 23rd, 2009 – Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the Bangladesh War of Liberation on Monday as an “unprecedented” event in 20th Century history.
Minister said that it was an act of moral resistance against injustices, atrocities, and oppression.

People of ordinary ability were brutally murdered and maimed.Operation Searchlight’s barbaric atrocities stirred the conscience.

Singh, who paid glowing tributes at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (Bangabandhu) said that the inspirational leadership of the first President was an inspiration for people in the struggle for freedom.

He said, “Bangabandhu’s ideals are the foundation for the shining Bangladesh constantly moving in its way of development.”

Singh was in New Delhi to visit the Bangladesh High Commission on Armed Forces Day of Bangladesh.This event was organized by Bangladesh High Commission.

Singh, on behalf of India’s Armed Forces, congratulated Armed Forces of Bangladesh and wished them all the best as they work towards security and peace.

This year has extraordinary significance for India and Bangladesh relations, as it commemorates the Golden Jubilee of the Liberation of Bangladesh.

It also marks the 50 years of India-Bangladesh diplomatic ties.And the centenary of the birth of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

“In this historic time, I salute and honor the brave struggle of Muktibahini during the Muktijuddho – War of Liberation in 1971.He stated that the heart of today’s Armed Forces of Bangladesh is made up of Spirit of Muktijuddha.

Singh paid tribute to the Indian soldiers that stood firm with Bangladesh in the War of Liberation and said it was a landmark in world history during the 20th century.

He remembered also the exceptional leadership of India in 1971 when it rose against all odds to support a nation against injustices and atrocities.

His statement that India’s reaction to 1971 events was more than just a matter of policy, was an expression of civilisation.

India’s support was a result of shared historical experiences and strong emotional, cultural and fraternal bonds that unify the citizens of India and Bangladesh.He said that the friendship founded on shared sacrifice has seen great success.

Singh demanded that the spirit of the “Liberation War” be kept alive for the young generations, particularly those who are part of Armed Forces.
