Dhaka : , Monday 22 November 2012: Bangladesh announced its Test match squad against Pakistan.They picked uncapped batsman Mahmudul Hasan joy and pace bowler Rejaur Rahman for the matches in Chittogram starting on November 26. Hasan will be batting in support of Bangladesh as they wait for Shakib Al Hasan, their star cricketer, to return to full strength after he was injured during last month’s T20 World Cup.He missed the T20Is against Pakistan which were lost by 3-0.
Bangladesh is already without TamimIqbal.He has been suffering from a broken left thumb since October.
Also, they will be without Mahmudullah (white-ball captain), who quit Test cricket.
Mahmudul Hasan (a player in the U-19 World Cup winning Bangladesh team, hailing from Chittogram), was selected for his outstanding batting performance in the local league.
He had scored back-to-back hundreds playing in the National Cricket League.
Minhajul Abedin, Chief Selector of the Indian Cricket Team said Monday that Mahmudul had shown good spirit for the longer format.He is an excellent batsman.We had to be open to other pace-bowling options due to the injury to Taskin (Ahmed), and Shoriful Islam (Islam).Raja was chosen.His performances at first-class competitions have been closely monitored by us.”He is energetic, strong, and has the knack to take wickets,” he stated.
Bangladesh’s fate with Shakib uncertain will be heavily dependent on Momunul Haque (skipper) and Mushfiqur Rahim. Abedin stated that their experiences will prove to be very positive for Bangladesh.
According to the board, he stated that “There’s a lot of experience when you take into account the fact that Mominul Haque (Haque), Mushfiqur(Rahim), Shakib (Islam), Taijul [Islam], and Miraz (“Mehidy Hazan) all make up the squad.” We will have to wait and see whether Shakib is able to make it to the first Test, but they have been some of our best performers in Tests so their presence could be a significant difference.
We have choices in both the pace and spin departments.
This team is composed of experienced cricketers, who are familiar with the requirements of Test matches.
On December 4, the second test will begin in Dhaka.
