“Green Zone” enclave in Baghdad is a high-security area, where foreign embassies, including U.S.Embassy, are based.On Wednesday night, two rockets landed into Iraqi capital’s Baghdad Green Zone.This was most likely fired by Iran backed Militant groups.The rockets exploded within the perimeter of the U.
S.Embassy but did not strike the compound.
According to the news, no causalities reported.The attack happened just 24 hours after Tehran launched ballistic missiles at Iraqi bases where the American and other Coalition forces are based.
The attack was considered as a vengeance to the killing of Iranian military Gen.Qassem Soleimani.Iran on Wednesday accepted that it launched tens of surface to surface missiles at Iraq’s Ain Assad airbase that houses U.S.troops.The U.S.earlier said that Gen.Soleimani was killed as he was responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American troops and also he was planning future attacks.Iran’s Militia groups launched 15 ballistic rockets, which were considered to be a smaller type of attack threatening U.
Iranian Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif defended the attack as an attack of self-defense and not war.While major importers like India and China are forced to cut purchases due to high tensions, ever since the imposition of strict sanctions against Iran due to attacks on the oil tankers in the Persian Gulf.
