Melbourne, November 18th : , Australia’s wicketkeeper Matthew Wade announced that he would be retiring after the next Men’s T20 World Cup.Wade said that the side strain of a grade 2 injury sustained during Saturday’s practice sessions had nearly prevented him from missing the Men’s T20 World Cup Final against New Zealand. “That will be my next motivation.I want to get to the World Cup and defend it.Then, I can go off in the sunset.International cricket is not something I will be doing beyond this point.Cricket.com.au quoted Wade as saying that this would be “my goal from here.”
Wade is likely to continue playing for Tasmania in domestic cricket, and the Big Bash League in Hobart Hurricanes.
Wade, who made 41 runs from 17 balls in the semi-final victory against Pakistan was the real hero.
He also scored a run-trick with sixes against Pakistan’s left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi, to win the match for his side.Wade did not have to play in the final as Australia won 173 runs with eight wickets at Dubai, their first ever Men’s T20 World Cup title.
Wade shared his doubts about missing the final Sunday.Wade said that if I hadn’t woken up to find out I could not swing the bat I would have quit.
It was a concern that I would lose my ability to continue if I batted first, and I felt that I needed to push the ball as far as possible.
Australia could have given Josh Inglis an international debut if the 33-year old hadn’t played.
