Aussie Test Batsman Phillip Hughes Dies

Today is a black day for entire cricket worls.Australian Cricketer Phillip Hughes who was hit by a bouncer passed away at St.Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney.Australian batsman Phillip Hughes who was struck on the head by a cricket ball died in hospital, Cricket Australia (CA) said Thursday.

He was hit by a bouncer while playing for South Australia at the Sydney Cricket Grounds on his head.After the blow, Hughes stood, looked at his feet and crashed face-first onto the pitch.

Hughes was carried off the ground on a stretcher and treated on the boundary before being rushed to a hospital where he underwent surgery.He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where he underwent surgery, was placed into an induced coma and was in intensive care in a critical condition.

He died on Thursday afternoon after failing to regain consciousness

The Australian flag was lowered to half-mast over the Sydney Cricket Ground where Hughes suffered the horrific injury.Flags were also lowered at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott paid tribute to Hughes, describing him as “a young man living out his dreams”.

Hughes made his Test debut in 2009 at the age of 20.It was baptism of fire as Hughes opened the innings alongside Katich at Cape Town.A duck, 75 and a pair of hundreds in the next Test at Durban confirmed he was a man for the future.

News of Hughes death is followed by calls from former Australian team players to abandon the first test match against India in next week.At the same time, questions about response time of ambulances dispatched to the stadium were also raised.
