New York, Nov 24, : The Association of Tennis Professionals has announced a new set of rules for the next season.These will improve play and ensure harmony on the court when players take a break or medical time-out. The new rules will take effect from the first tournament in the 2022 season.Players will be limited to three minutes per toilet break, and may only change their clothes for two minutes.
Players are reportedly taking longer breaks to catch their breath as competition becomes more difficult.This can sometimes lead to unpleasant incidents on the court with rivals fretting.
Tuesday’s ATP list included a list of do’s, don’ts, and the maximum time players could be away from court.
Players will now have a maximum of three minutes to use the toilet.
They will also be allowed to change their clothes for two minutes.
According to the ATP, the change of clothes must be done only in conjunction with a bathroom break unless authorized by the Chair Umpire.
“A player can only take one bathroom break per match.” Toilet breaks are only allowed during a set break.If a player isn’t ready in the time allowed, time violations will be applied,” the ATP stated in a statement.
The ATP stated that medical time-outs could only be taken during a set break or a changeover.
“If the player is unable to continue to the next change in ends, he will forfeit all points needed to get to that set break/change of ends.”
