Guwahati (Nov 16) Assam, Meghalaya and Assam are likely to settle their inter-state border dispute in six of 12 locations by December.This was according to Chief Ministers from the two countries who visited the disputing areas on Tuesday.

Sangma said due to the inter-state border dispute, implementation of various government schemes and projects and undertaking development have become problematic affecting the welfare of the people.Sangma stated that because of the dispute at the border, the implementation of different government projects and schemes as well as undertaking development has become difficult and could have a negative impact on the welfare of people.

“Implementation of schemes relating to electricity, water, health have turned complicated and that’s why we are trying to resolve the border issues at the earliest.”Implementation schemes related to electricity, water and health has become complicated.That’s why, we want to solve the border problems as soon as possible.Already 50 years have passed but the border dispute remains and creates various problems often,” he added.He said that although 50 years has passed, the border dispute still exists and causes many problems frequently.”

Later, the Meghalaya Chief Minister tweeted, “We have given a timeline to the regional committees to send their reports on or before November 30, 2021, to Himanta Biswa Sarma ji and me.The Meghalaya Chief minister tweeted later that “We have provided a timeline for the regional committees in order to submit their reports by or before November 30, 2021 to Himanta Biswa Saarma ji.Consultation with stakeholders from our respective states will then follow to decide on the best course of action.”.The best way forward will be decided upon after consultation with the stakeholders in our states.

Sarma said under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Assam and Meghalaya governments are sincerely trying to settle the border dispute at the earliest.

Sarma stated that the Assam-Meghalaya governments, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guidance and Union Home Minister Amit Sharma’s support, are trying to resolve the border dispute as soon as possible.
