AP has Rs 54,369.18 crore debt for fiscal year 2020-21: CAG

The opposition parties in Andhra Pradesh continuously criticize the debts that the Andhra Pradesh state government led by Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy is incurring.In addition to this, recently, the Union govt said in the parliament that the Andhra Pradesh state government has incurred over Rs 4,000 crore than the actual debt limit this year.

The Union govt made it clear that the Andhra Pradesh state government has mentioned in the budget that AP is currently has a budget deficit of Rs 54,369.18 crore for the 2020-21 fiscal year.Union Finance Minister Pankaj Chowdhury said this in a written reply to questions posed by TDP MP Kanakamedala Ravindrakumar in the Rajya Sabha.

In the written reply, Union Minister Pankaj Chaudhary said that as per the 15th Finance Commission, AP can borrow Rs.30,305 crores for the fiscal year 2020-2021.Due to Covid, AP can borrow an additional Rs 19,192 crore.

In total, AP can borrow Rs 49,497 for the fiscal year 2020-2021.

Also, the Union Home Ministry said there was no response from AP on the objections to the ‘Disha’ bill.
